Give Yourself the Gift of Laser Resurfacing This Holiday Season
Looking for the perfect gift for yourself as you swing into the holiday season? How about refreshing the face you see looking back at you in the mirror every morning?
You may have been thinking about this for a while now, as the small signs of aging begin to creep up on you, but the holiday season is the ideal time to pull the trigger. When it comes to skin care, our team members at New Life Aesthetics are the perfect gift-giving guides.
Here’s what they want you to know about how skin resurfacing can help your appearance.
Why do you need skin resurfacing?
As you age, cell damage over time reaches the point where your body can’t keep up with your skin’s need to produce fresh new cells, so the signs of aging begin to show, especially on your face. This includes such issues as fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, and discoloration or uneven pigmentation. Old scars, including acne scars, may become more visible as well.
Your skin just doesn’t look as fresh and young as it once did, but laser resurfacing can help.
How does laser treatment work?
At New Live Aesthetics, our team uses the state-of-the-art Icon® laser system from CynoSure® to smooth out your skin and restore that youthful appearance you’re missing. This works in two ways.
First, the laser energy causes exfoliation of all of the old, dead skin cells on your face — it just removes that outer layer of skin, revealing new skin cells underneath. This alone gives your skin a younger, rejuvenated look.
At the same time, the laser energy heats your dermis, which is the deeper layer of skin underneath the outer layer. This heat stimulates production of collagen and elastin, proteins that strengthen and firm up your skin. Over the next few weeks, the increased levels of collagen continue to help your skin to look smooth, supple, and fresh.
What’s the recovery like?
Your skin may be pink for an hour or so after the treatment, but otherwise, there’s no downtime with laser skin resurfacing. You may notice some peeling in the days after the procedure, and your sensitivity to sunlight will be increased, so you should wear sunscreen anytime you’re outside at all.
For the best results, most patients undergo a series of laser treatments every 4-6 weeks. Your provider can develop your customized treatment plan after meeting with you to assess your goals.
